Wylfa Power Station

Blick UK Ltd of Swindon won the project to upgrade the existing Public Address system and design, install and commission a new Voice Alarm system at a remote nuclear power plant in Wales.

The project was commissioned by the Wylfa plant, a BNFL Magnox Generation station, part of British Nuclear Fuels plc, situated on the island of Anglesey, North Wales. Wylfa, the last Magnox type reactor to be built in the UK has produced electricity 24 hours a day since 1971.

The contract included replacing approximately 800 speakers and we were delighted when Blick UK chose Penton to supply. Also required was associated field wiring, requiring in excess of 30,000 meters of fire retardant cable and the provision of four new racks of amplification together with 3 racks of battery backup.

The site benefits from a site-wide Public Address System which is used to broadcast Fire Alarm, Nuclear Alert and Nuclear Incident alarm tones, as well as general paging announcements both internally and externally and was designed and installed as part of the original construction of the Station.

Speakers supplied:

PH20/TC 20 Watt Horn Loudspeakers
SENTRY6/STC Metal Vandal Proof Cabinets

All were compliant to voice alarm standard BS5839 Part 8
